Is my League skin rare?

Short answer: look your skin up. Type its name into the search on lolskins.io and its page tells you straight away how rare it is, from Common to Unobtainable, and why.

The longer answer matters, though, because the thing most people check first, the colored gem (Epic, Legendary, Ultimate), doesn't tell you how rare a skin is. It tells you what it costs.

The gem is the price, not the rarity

An Epic skin is 1,350 RP and a Legendary is 1,820 RP. But plenty of Legendary skins are in the store every day, while some cheap 520 RP skins from 2009 haven't been sold in over a decade. Rarity is about availability: can you still get this skin, and how?

The five rarity levels

We rate every skin on how hard it is to own today. Of the 1,947 skins in League:

• Common (1,334 skins, 69%): In the store: anyone can buy it.
• Uncommon (383 skins, 20%): Out of the store, but it comes back now and then.
• Rare (149 skins, 8%): Only through a special currency, shop or event.
• Very rare (18 skins, 1%): Luck or a short window: gacha drops and limited events.
• Unobtainable (63 skins, 3%): Can't be got any more: whoever has it, keeps it.

So if your skin is Common, it's one of the 69% you can simply buy. Uncommon usually means Legacy: out of the store, but back during sales. Rare and up means something special: Mythic Essence, events, gacha or rewards.

Got it from a chest or a reroll?

Hextech chests and rerolls only give skins that are in the loot pool, which includes many Legacy skins. That's why a chest can hand you something you couldn't buy today. The most-watched non-Common skins you can still pull from loot right now:
